India women emerge Asia Rugby 7s Plate winners

Indian emerged Plate Winners at the 2018 Asia Rugby Women’s Sevens Trophy, defeating Laos 31-10 at Panaga Club in Brunei today. Four players from Odisha represented India in this tournament. They were: Hupi Majhi, Bhagyalaxmi Barik, Meerarani Hembram and Sumitra Nayak.

Led by Vahbiz Bharucha, India reached Plate finals after an emphatic 30-0 win over Indonesia. Earlier in the quarterfinals, India brush past Pakistan 43-0. India started their campaign on a lackluster note, losing two matches on the opening day. They lost to Uzbekistan 5-10 and to Philippines 12-17. Malaysia emerged champions defeating Philippines 10-7 in the final.
